Up And Running

I’m up and running again after my trusty computer finally died. 4 1/2 years of no problems is not that bad so I’m very thankful that I was able to use it for so long.

Brief update on life…we’re all doing well. Judah is loving first grade. River Sage is loving gymnastics class. Heather has gotten back into teaching gymnastics a bit and she loves it. We’ve all really enjoyed being a family lately. We cherish our Fridays together.

That’s about it. Hope everyone is well.

Fiery Hot Cheetos

My kids love Fiery Hot Cheetos. I picked them up a bag the other day.

I told River Sage that they were very hot and she needed to be careful. She nodded and then proceeded to blow on her Cheeto to make sure it wasn’t too hot and then put it in her mouth. She did this with her whole plate.

Awesome!

Movie Leadership Principals

I love leadership and I also like to watch movies. Some of my favorite movies have the best leadership principals in them. Today I’ve been thinking about the latest Batman Movie The Dark Night.

The Dark Night Leader will be unfairly blamed and criticized for many things he had no part of. But since he’s a leader, he’s in the public eye and will be criticized. It’s part of the job.

The Dark Night may want to defend himself from those unfair other people. Making sure his reputation is not tarnished. But in the end, his only audience is God.

The Dark Night knows that in the end, he’s doing the right thing even though all of Gotham sees him as a freak.

The Dark Night Leader keeps doing the right thing even when the rest of Gotham goes their own way.

The Joker will use fear to try to motivate us to do our worst. The Dark Night must show courage even in the midst of Gotham’s darkest hour.

…I wrote this a few months ago. But it still holds true. As leaders, sometimes we have to be the Dark Night.

One year at New Day

So yesterday. I got up to give my talk and all of the sudden some of the best music in the world came through the sound system…John Williams’ Star Wars theme. I thought someone had made a mistake. But then Vince was coming down the isle with an anniversary cake. It was pretty special.
It meant alot that everyone at New Day appreciated us and was happy we are here. What was also awesome is that they did a Star Wars theme. It wasn’t like they expected me to fit a particular mold, but I can be myself.

We’re so excited to be at New Day. God has so many exciting plans here. We have seen him already work so much.

Roller Skate Birthday

Judah and River Sage were invited to a birthday party at a Roller Rink. I honestly think the last time I was in a roller rink was when I was in high school. And my horrible memories of it where when the cute girl in the rink asked me to “couples” skate and I fell while holding her hand. Needless to say, she didn’t want to skate with me anymore.

But in college I learned how to rollerblade. Heather and I both have some nice blades so when Judah and River Sage learned, Heather and I strapped on our skates.

It was alot of fun. River Sage took to it real well. Judah was discouraged at first but kept going and slowly got the hang of it. I was having a blast and then I bent down and heard a crack. I didn’t think anything of it until I heard more cracks. Pretty soon, I could tell what was going on. My skate was falling apart. My awesome hockey blades that I’ve had since college…(whoah! I’ve had these skates for like thirteen years!).

Well, I was able to get one lap around the rink holding Heather’s hand before it completely gave loose and the wheels came off of my shoe still tied to my foot. But it was alot of fun.

Throwback to when we were kids skating at a birthday party. Fun times.
