Youth Pastors Conference Day 2

So deep sea fishing was definitely an adventure. However, I must save the story for another post because it’s a good story.

Mike King came and gave an introductory talk on presence centered youth ministry. He shared about his past and what was really the recent history of American church’s attitudes towards the lost since the 60’s. Attitudes like argumentative, dogmatic Christianity that turns off most people, especially people who don’t know God. His experiences over the years has led to a shift in philosophy especially in youth ministry.

A shift from “behavior modification” style ministry to a ministry that promotes meeting with God and knowing Him more. Mike likes using spiritual practices that promote communion time with God. His book has many different practices that have been used by people in history to grow closer to God.

A shift from guilting or arguing someone to heaven to showing someone how God is living in your life and inviting others to be apart of it.
