Battle of the Sexes ’07

We had a great Battle this last weekend. Our whole focus was on the difference between the lies that Hollywood portrays as love and God’s love.

The theme verse was out of 1 Corinthians. “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth” -1 Corinthians 13:6

Ryan and Kristina did a great job leading in a little acoustic worship followed by Mike who really set the tone for the weekend great talk from Song of Solomon talking about real love. I had multiple conversations with students and adults that night who were convicted by what he had to say.

We then broke up into guy/girl groups and talked about stereotypes that media portrays guys and girls. We had them list stereotypes of the opposite sex on one side and desirable Godly qualities on the other.

After returning from BJ’s all you can eat pizza dinner the groups got together to report their findings. I just about died when the guy’s first desirable quality for the opposite sex was that they were “born as girls”. It was great to see them share with each other their hopes and dreams for their future relationships.

Next was late night sardines, guitar hero, and trying to get to sleep.

Saturday morning we had everyone individually look through some verses about love and write down lies they’ve heard and how it compares with God’s view. Then we prepped for Universal Studios and took off.

Universal was a blast! We had so much fun just hanging together and laughing hard. Jurassic and Mummy were awesome cause we filled a whole car.

We returned for dinner and decompressed talking about how real things looked when they were really just Hollywood tricks. The trick is discerning what is fake and what is truth.

A great weekend. I’m thankful for all the adults who gave their time to make this event something memorable and life changing for the students.
